Abuse Of Power Hitler

Is President Obama and Adolf Hitler comparable?
The way he offers change, and tells people how he can turn the country around is alot like how Hitler came to power. But after offering all the change, and making people believe him, he abused his power, and started turning into a dictator.
Since the U.S. has been in a recession, the economy is willing to do anything for change, and President Obama is offering a way out for the american people, but in the long run, will he abuse his power?
Do you think President Obamas technique to gaining power is similiar to Adolf Hitlers?
It seems people are backing his every move, without thoroughly thinking it through. HItler also preached he was the better change, and he would bring Germany out of the recession. He would tell the people of Germany he means well, but really he was planning to abuse his power as a ruler of Germany, making him a dictator.
Well, this is a question alot of people seem to be asking so I’ll try and do the question some justice. Neoconservatives (the very last people, in my estimation, who probably should) suggest that all political conversations tend to “degenerate” until they finally reach the point where someone mentions Hitler.
But since we’re starting from Hitler let’s try and work things upwards.
There are some similarities between President Obama and Chancellor Hitler in some respects
While both men ran political candidacies based on “change” , it’s important to recognize some of the promises these politicians made.
Then
- Candidate Hitler promised a change in so far as he promoted a return to “Traditional German Values” and couched many discussions from the perspective of the “working man”, dismissing the bulk of the Wiemar political operation as “weak willed” and something that arguably should be dismantled.
- Candidate Hitler was openly hostile towards both international interaction with and the existence the League of Nations (the United Nations of the day), and for fairly plausible reasons – since it was a body composed largely of the victors from World War 1.
- Candidate Hitler also openly espoused some pretty racist policies couching them in the (then acceptable) language of Germanic/Aryan racial superiority.
- Candidate Hitler campaigned hard on the idea of massive government spending to get Germany “back to work”, however while this sounds VERY socialist, it was actually in an effort to build back German industrial strength and so was more than a little corporatist in intention.
- Candidate Hitler played seriously dirty politics, running a “False Flag” program, in so far as his “brown-shirts” covertly torched the Reichstad – the German Parliamentary Building equivalent of the US Capitol Building.
At which point Candidate Hitler ran on a platform of being strong against terrorism and defending German “purity” against “Ouslanders” (Non-Germans / Non-Aryans) who by implication – were obviously responsible for the terrorism.
- Upon election, Chancellor Hitler, immediately worked to void the Armistice of Versailles, by starting a pretty massive military re-armament program.
- Chancellor Hitler within just a few days of his election started policies of “Emergency Acts” (Called the Enabling Acts), which curtailed and eliminated many rights for Non-Germans and setup policies allowing for secret arrest and detention of “undesirables”, within months, “undesirables” became less vauge a term, and groups started to be identified, notably Jews, Gypsies, the mentally or physically handicapped, homosexuals, liberals, communists, Political activists / agitators and of course terrorists.
- Mr. Hitler had much earlier on tried to conduct a military coup in Munich, against the legitimate German government and was imprisoned as a political prisoner as a result, His book , Mein Kampf , is still sold today and is popular among many groups that feel racial superiority is an “obvious” truth.
Now
- Candidate Obama promised a change in so far as he promoted a return to “Traditional American Values” and couched many discussions from the perspective of the “working man”, nevertheless he has not made suggestions that the political makeup of Congress be swept aside.
- Candidate Obama seems open and friendly towards the international community specifically working with “Old Europe”, Japan and even reaching out to states to whom we have not worked well with, over the last 20 years or so.
- Candidate Obama seems typically socially liberal and conventional, so here I suppose about the only thing one could caution against being overly inclusive and politically correct.
- Candidate Obama campaigned hard on the idea of massive government spending to get the US “back to work”, however while this sounds VERY socialist. While both promoted socialist policie, while Hitler was deadly serious about helping Germany get back to pre-war strength, US politicians, Mr. Obama included appears to have embraced something called “Lemon” socialism, more or less by listening to threats from corporations threatening millions of layoffs if taxpayer money isn’t handed over.
Importantly, there is talk of an industrial spending program in the stimulus package, which may help start our country down the path of industrial and energy independency (Germany, Japan, France and almost every other industrialized nation) did this more than 30 years ago, while corporate interests in the US have consistently dismissed these efforts as “caving into” myths about peak oil. Smart money would bootstrap new industries, instead of saving bad ones. Time will tell.

- In stark contrast to Candidate Hitler, Candidate Obama ran on the platform of opening investigations into the secret surveilance programs and detention facilities and working to end the overseas war in Iraq in a reasonable time frame.
- President Obama – within just a few days, eliminated the official sanction / policies on the use of techniques widely considered torture initiated under the previous administration.
Mr. Obama worked in a charity for some time in Chicago, and wrote a predictably fluffy book called “The Audacity of Hope”, which is about as comparable to Mein Kampf as, the The Blues Brothers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blues_Brothers is to Downfall http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Untergang
So if you put aside the whole, racist and genocidal militarism, then you could certainly find commonality in that they tried to implement economic stimulus packages and were elected on a wave of public optimism about what they as candidates stood for.
Otherwise, It’s difficult to see how they could be more different.
